What is Wirral Vision?
Wirral Vision is a community-based eye service delivered by ophthalmic specialist nurses at St Georges Medical Centre. Clinics are held five days a week, including Saturday.
We treat and monitor eye conditions, including:
- glaucoma (diagnosis, management planning, and monitoring)
- ocular hypertension – diagnosis, management planning and monitoring
- epiphora (watery eyes)
- dry eyes
- undiagnosed red eye
- non-active retinal abnormalities
- iritis
- conjunctivitis (not responding to treatment)
- concretions
- naevi
- loss of vision (including transient loss, but not sudden loss)
- mild atopic keratoconjunctivitis
- ingrowing eyelashes
- posterior vitreous detachment (flashes and floaters)
- blepharitis
- pingueculae and pterygium (only symptomatic or troublesome)
- minor surgery:
- periorbital cysts and skin tags
- conjunctival cysts
- punctoplasty (three-snip procedure)
- chalazion
Who can refer to Wirral Vision?
Opticians, GPs, and other health professionals can refer via our referral form. Health professionals can email us at wiccg.wirralvision@nhs.net or call us on 0151 630 8114 to request a copy of our referral form.
How long is the waiting list?
All referrals are screened within 1 working day and patients are offered an appointment within two working days should their referral be appropriate for the service. Urgent referrals are seen within 1-14 days and routine referrals within 1-6 weeks.
